Picture day is fast approaching and you're trying to decide what your child should wear. Should you let them don their favorite outfit? Would a new dress be best? How about that sweater that Grandma knit? And accessories! Are hats and extras allowed?
You know your child best, so dress them in comfortable clothes that will make their personality shine! When kids feel cool and comfortable, they're more likely to give that beautiful grin from ear to ear. If you're still unsure, check out these 5 tips from the expert photographers at Lifetouch Preschool Portraits:
Tastefully blending different textures in your child's outfit can add visual interest to a photograph. The easiest way to do this is to use layers when choosing an outfit. Lace, ruffles and ribbons are great. Denim and plaid are adorable. Satin and velvet shine! Layers add dimension and help produce a stunning portrait.
Accessories are a wonderful way to let your preschooler's true personality shine in photographs. Just keep in mind that they shouldn't overwhelm your child. The goal is to enhance their cuteness with items like a favorite baseball cap, fun scarf or even a beloved stuffed animal.
Don't forget about your child's shoes on picture day. In full-length poses they will show, and you'd probably prefer to avoid the dingy tennis shoes. Dress shoes, cowboy boots, and even new athletic shoes look great and enhance a photo's result.
When it comes time to choose, if you're still uncertain, it's best to go basic. Too many busy patterns can be distracting, so opt for denim or khaki pants or skirts paired with plain, solid-colored shirts. Basic black, brown or white shoes can be the finishing touch. All that's left is for your child to show those pearly whites with pride!
When your preschool uses Lifetouch, you will have a chance to get both of your preschool aged kids to be photographed together on Picture Day in addition to getting individual photos of your star students. You just have to alert the photographer ahead of time using your Parent Flyer given by your Preschool Director. When dressing siblings, resist the urge to go with matching outfits. The best option is to coordinate colors and patterns, but don't match exactly.
